Export of beech logs from Romania increased by 9% in the 1st quarter of 2015

Import of beech logs from Ukraine to Romania went up 26%.
Export of beech logs from Romania increased by 9% to 176.288 thousand m3 in the 1st quarter of 2015 compared to the same period last year. The main part of the wood was exported outside the EU as much as about 99% or 174.767 thousand m3. From this volume, 98.304 thousand m3 were shipped to Egypt, 4.603 thousand m3 to Tunisia, 3.772 thousand m3 to Saudi Arabia, 4.096 to Lebanon.
It is noteworthy that shipments to these countries increased by almost 15% compared to the same period last year. Export of beech logs to China remains stable and is estimated at 47.883 thousand m3 (47.421 thousand m3 in 2014).
Import of beech round wood to Romania increased by 72% in the 1st quarter of 2015 and amounted to 4.906 thousand m3. 50% from total import of beech round wood or 2.433 thousand m3 were imported from Ukraine.
