The economic sentiment indicator in the euro area for eight consecutive months decreased to 111.6 in August 2018 from 112.1 in the previous month and below market expectations.
This was the lowest figure since August last year, as credibility among manufacturers, service providers and consumers deteriorated. Meanwhile, the mood has improved among retailers and builders.
For reference: the index of economic optimism in the euro area averaged 100.77 from 1985 to 2018, reaching the maximum value in May 2000 – 118.30, and the lowest value – 68.50 in March 2009.
