Ukraine entered the top 10 world exporters of sugar (Infographics)

In the 2016/2017 marketing year, Ukrainian sugar producers have exported a record-breaking volume of 767’300 tons worth $377.8 million and became one of the 10 biggest exporters of sugar.

According to the results of the 2016/2017 marketing year, the main importers of Ukrainian sugar were Sri Lanka 112’200 tons worth $56.7 million; Georgia 50’900 tons/$25.2 million; Turkey 47’900 tons/$23.5 million. Significant shipments have been made to the African countries such as Libya imported $21.4 million worth of sugar; Cote d’Ivoire – $16.2 million; Egypt – $15.1 million.

“Taking into account, that the previous world marketing year has been short on supply, national sugar refiners have gained momentum to supply the product internationally, thus, in 2016/2017 marketing year the producers exported a record volume of 767’300 tons of sugar worth $377.8 million and became the top 10 exporters of sugar. Moreover, during this marketing year, a significant shift in consumer demand occurred, Ukrainian sugar has been purchased by countries that traditionally buy cane sugar” Ruslana Butilo commented the data, Head of Analytics Department of the National Association of Sugar Producers of Ukraine “UKRSUGAR”.

The forecast of the Association for export of sugar for this year is 500’000 tons.
